Question

Should I Track AI Visibility on Different Platforms Separately?

Short Answer

You should track platforms separately, but you do not need to track every AI tool. Start with one or two places your customers are most likely to use, plus Google AI Overviews if Google is important for your business. A simple check is more useful than one broad score.

Explanations

AI platforms do not all use the same sources or present local businesses in the same way. One may draw on your Google Business Profile and reviews; another may rely more on your website, local directories or articles that mention you. That is why one AI visibility score can be misleading: it can hide where you are recommended and where you are not. You do not need to monitor every platform. Start with the one or two tools your customers are most likely to use. If local Google searches matter, include Google AI Overviews. Once a month, ask each tool two or three genuine customer questions. Record whether you are recommended, merely mentioned or missing. This focused check shows what needs attention without becoming another weekly marketing task.

Example

A Bristol independent accountant starts by checking Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT because these are likely starting points for local customers. Once a month, the owner asks both tools, “Which accountant can help a small limited company in Bristol?” The firm appears in Google but not ChatGPT. That tells the owner to explore the sources ChatGPT appears to use, rather than adding more platforms or chasing a single score.

Takeaway

AI platforms can give different recommendations, so one visibility score will not tell the full story. But small businesses do not need to monitor every tool. Check one or two relevant platforms monthly using a few realistic customer questions.
