Question

Do I need a separate local SEO strategy for AI search?

Short Answer

No. You do not need a completely separate local SEO strategy for AI search. Keep the same foundations—accurate business details, useful service and location pages, reviews and a maintained Google Business Profile—then make sure they clearly answer the questions local customers are likely to ask.

Explanations

AI search does not replace local SEO with a new set of tricks. When someone asks for a local business, an AI tool may look for the same evidence that supports normal local search: what you do, where you work, when you are open, how customers describe you, and whether those facts agree across trusted sources.

The difference is in the question being answered. A customer may ask, “Who can repair a boiler in Leeds this evening?” rather than search only for “boiler repair Leeds”. The AI needs enough clear information to match the urgency, service, location and customer need. If your website says only that you offer “quality heating solutions”, it may struggle to make that match. If it lists emergency boiler repairs, the areas you cover and how to contact you, it has something specific to use.

So keep improving your existing local SEO work, but review it through real customer questions as well as keywords.

Example

A family-run locksmith already has a Google Business Profile, recent reviews and a page for each town it serves. To support AI search, it does not need a second website or a separate campaign. It updates its emergency-locksmith page to state that it offers 24-hour lockouts, covers Harrogate and nearby villages, and can help tenants as well as homeowners. That makes the service easier to match to a detailed local question.

Takeaway

Think of AI search as an added layer on top of local SEO, not a replacement for it. Keep your business information accurate and consistent, then make your services, locations and customer situations specific enough for an AI tool to match them to the right question.
